Certifications
Women & Gender Studies (WGST)
The WGST certificate is only available for traditional (2-year) MSW students.
MSW Students are required to take four courses to qualify for the certificate.
These three social work courses must be taken in the first year of the program:
- SOWO 61803 Professional Foundation
- SOWO 61823 Diversity and Social Justice
- SOWO 61843 Human Behavior and the Social Environment 1
You must also complete one of these two WGST graduate-level courses:
- WGST 50103 Feminist/Queer Inquiry
- WGST 60003 Colloquium in Feminist Theory
WGST certification courses are available both fall and spring semesters.
These courses can replace one of the second-year social work electives.
Specific WGST Course Information
Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies (CRES)
The CRES certificate is only available for traditional (2-year) MSW students.
MSW Students are required to take four courses to qualify for the certificate.
These three social work courses must be taken in the first year of the program:

- SOWO 61823 Diversity and Social Justice
- SOWO 61843 Human Behavior and the Social Environment 1
You must also complete one of these two CRES graduate-level courses:
- CRES 60003 Graduate Introduction to Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies
- CRES 70001 Portfolio
CRES certification courses are available both fall and spring semesters
These courses can replace one of the second-year social work electives.
