Dual Degrees with MSW

Main Content

Interested in earning a degree from Brite Divinity School while earning your MSW? At Brite, degree programs have expanded to include biblical studies, black church studies, military chaplaincy, pastoral care and sexual and gender justice. Dual degree options include:

MSW-MATM Dual Degree

The Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry (MATM) is a degree designed to couple rich theological inquiry with formative practices to prepare leaders for ministry, or for service in bi-vocational settings such as teaching, business, social work, NGOs, and non-profit organizations.

MSW-MTS Dual Degree

The Master of Theological Studies is a degree designed to provide critical and constructive reflection informed by the study of a range of theological disciplines. This degree may serve as a foundation for advanced theological studies or as a vehicle for the enhancement of one’s own faith and understanding.

MSW-MDiv Dual Degree

The Master of Divinity is a degree designed to educate informed leaders who are prepared to engage in effective, critically imaginative ministry in a variety of contemporary contexts. This comprehensive theological and ministerial degree is the primary course of study for those seeking ordination in most traditions.

Degree & Admission Requirements

Specific questions about Brite Divinity School admissions and degree requirements should be directed towards a representative from Brite. Students who choose to complete a dual degree must be admitted to the Department of Social Work’s MSW program and Brite Divinity School’s MATM, MTS or MDiv programs.

  • If a student elects to complete only one degree after having been admitted to both programs, previously allowed course substitutions will be honored, and must then meet all remaining requirements at the degree-granting institution.
  • Must apply for dual degree status prior to completing 21 hours in either program. Advanced standing MSW students will need to declare upon admission into the program.
