FORT WORTH, Texas (February 1, 2024) – Texas Christian University is hosting its 10th Annual Chance to Dance, a free prom-like event for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in the Brown-Lupton University Union on TCU’s campus.
This event is unique and unlike any other where those with intellectual and developmental differences come together with TCU students to connect with old friends, make new ones and have fun through dinner and dancing.
This is the only event of its kind in North Texas, and this year, the aim is to spread more awareness and invite even more individuals with IDD and their families across Dallas-Fort Worth to join in the fun.
“Events like these are what makes TCU, TCU,” said Mark Cohen, associate athletics director for strategic and football communications at TCU. Cohen attends the event with his two sons who have autism. “Adam and Steven look forward to this event each year and begin a daily countdown reminder the closer they get to the big day.”
This initiative has the potential to not only reshape perceptions but also set a positive example for other events and organizations seeking to create more inclusive spaces.

The event is hosted by the chapter of the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association at the Davies School of Communication Sciences & Disorders in Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences at TCU.
