Deaf & Hard of Hearing Studies

Learn the language of the deaf and hard of hearing community and gain specialized knowledge to work in deaf education settings.

Speech-Language Pathology

Learn to give the gift of language through unique classroom and hands-on education. In our Miller Speech & Hearing Clinic, you’ll work with patients and learn to treat a variety of speech, language and hearing disorders.

Minors

Adding a minor from TCU’s Davies School of Communication Sciences & Disorders (COSD) is an opportunity to explore a subject you're passionate about, deepen your knowledge in a particular area and make your resume stand out in the job market.

Program Requirements

  • Total of 18 credit hours 
    • Required courses:
      • COSD 10303 Survey of Communication Disorders
      • COSD 10343 Basic Sign Language
    • Remaining credit hours must be approved by a health sciences advisor in the Harris Academic Resource Center (HARC).
    • Six of the remaining credit hours must be at the 3000 level or above.
    • Grade of C or higher in all courses to count toward the minor or as prerequisites for subsequent courses.

Students pursuing a COSD minor with an emphasis in Speech-Language Pathology (COMS) must also choose 12 credit hours from the following coursework:

  • COSD 20324 Clinical Methods (4)
  • COSD 20333 Phonetics (3)
  • COSD 20503 Anatomy & Physiology of Speech & Hearing (3)
  • COSD 30324 Speech Sound Disorders (4)
  • COSD 30334 Language Development (4)
  • COSD 30343 Aural Rehabilitation (3)
  • COSD 30363 Audiology (3)
  • COSD 30373 Language Disorders (3)
  • COSD 40343 Neurological Substrates (3)
  • COSD 50323 Counseling Special Populations (3)
