Requirements

  • Completed online application that includes:
    • One official transcript from all colleges and universities attended with a preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) from the baccalaureate nursing program. (International transcripts should be sent with an evaluation from a transcript credentialing service.)
    • Resume or curriculum vita
    • Personal statement should demonstrate written communications skills, be no more than two (2) pages double-spaced, and should address specific personal, academic and/or professional strengths and/or accomplishments and how these qualify you as a strong candidate for the MSN program, and why you are interested in a MSN from TCU.
    • Three professional references (should be from a supervisor, previous faculty or other professional references)
  • BSN from an accredited school or university
  • Current unencumbered licensure in the state of Texas, or the state in which practicum coursework will occur
  • Current certification of American Heart Association BLS for health care Provider and immunization history that meets the DFW Hospital Council requirements.
  • Preferred work history that includes one year of full-time experience, or its equivalent, as a registered nurse
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language: a score of at least 600 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a score of 6 on the institutional version of the Test of Spoken English (TSE) within the past two years.

All submitted materials become the property of TCU. Satisfactory completion of a drug screen and background check will be required prior to beginning practicum hours. If accepted, a $250 non-refundable deposit is due with your letter of intent to hold your position.

  • BSN from an accredited school or university
  • Current unencumbered licensure in the state of Texas or the state in which practicum coursework will occur
  • Current CPR certification and immunizations
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language: a score of at least 600 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a score of 6 on the institutional version of the Test of Spoken English (TSE) within the past two years.
  • Satisfactory completion of an interview
  • Work history:
    • FNP, PMHNP and CNS: preferred work history that includes one year of full-time experience, or its equivalent, as a registered nurse
    • AGACNP: at least one year of full-time RN experience within an inpatient, acute care setting, including but not limited to progressive care, intensive or critical care, intermediate care, emergency department or telemetry unit.

  • Master’s degree in nursing or related field from an accredited school or university and a minimum GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. All applicants must hold a BSN in addition to a master’s degree.
  • Current unencumbered licensure in the state of Texas or the state in which practicum coursework will occur
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language: a score of at least 600 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a score of 6 on the institutional version of the Test of Spoken English (TSE) within the past two years.
  • Satisfactory completion of an interview
  • For applicants whose master’s is not in nursing administration or advanced practice, additional course work may be required based on a gap analysis of previous educational preparation.

    • Three professional references (should be from a supervisor, previous faculty, or other professional references)
  • BSN from an accredited school or university
  • Ph.D. or a DNP from a NLNAC or CCNE accredited program
  • Current unencumbered licensure in the state of Texas or the state in which practicum coursework will occur
  • Current CPR certification and immunizations
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language: a score of at least 600 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a score of 6 on the institutional version of the Test of Spoken English (TSE) within the past two years.

The amount of coursework required for the post-graduate APRN certificates (CNS and NP roles) and other roles is determined by a gap analysis of previously completed course work in your master’s and doctorate of nursing practice degree, when the course work was completed, and Texas Board of Nursing requirements.
